Sharing Hearts, Building Bones:

Taking place on Zoom, the focus of this workshop will be a circle conversation led by the Founder of Native Child and Family Services of Toronto and the Director of the Indigenous Spirit Fund, Kenn Richard, who will share insights from his over 40 years of service and activism on behalf of Indigenous children and youth. Touching on issues including the legacies of residential schools and the Sixties Scoop, Indigenous overrepresentation in child welfare, the strength and resilience of Indigenous families and service providers, this workshop will demonstrate the important role that culture and holistic approaches to healing play in family and community well-being for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

Designed to connect philanthropists, foundations, corporations and Indigenous and Non-Indigenous community members, this 1 ½ hour learning opportunity will help participants work towards building new relationships with each other in the spirit of Reconciliation.

About This Charity

The Indigenous Spirit Fund (ISF) is a new Fund established in 2018 by Native Child and Family Services of Toronto (NCFST), Canada’s largest Indigenous non-profit multi-service organization. The Indigenous Spirit Fund is led by Indigenous people with expertise in child and family welfare, Indigenous cultures, and governance. Community-focused and based in Toronto, our work will focus on local and regional initiatives that benefit Indigenous children and families. Native Child and Family Services of Toronto strives to provide a life of quality, well-being, caring and healing for our children and families in Toronto’s Aboriginal community by delivering a broad range of programs and services that are culture-based and respect the values of Aboriginal people, the extended family, and the right to self-determination.
