Thanks to the support from the Trottier Family Foundation, every dollar you donate to Myriad Canada for this specific project will be matched 1:1, doubling the power of your contribution, up to a total of CAD $50,000. This means that for every $50 you give, $100 will go towards the project, amplifying the impact of your support to reach more children in need.
The matching campaign runs until April 10th, 2025.
Context
Education is a fundamental right and a basic need of every child. And it is especially difficult and important to fight for this right in wartime, as the future of any nation directly depends on its level of development and education. According to the official information of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as of the beginning of the summer of 2024, as a result of the war, more than 3,500 educational institutions were destroyed in one way or another and almost 400 were completely destroyed.
Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian children missed out their education due to bombed-out schools and homes, loss of parents and loved ones, change of living place, lack of access and lack of materials needed for this process, etc. But life goes on and we need to educate the next generation of Ukrainians so that they can take part in the reconstruction of the country after the war and become the best representatives of the Ukrainian nation.
Goals
This project aims to provide personalized academic support, in addition to the school curriculum, to children who are experiencing difficulties at school after suffering loss due to the war in Ukraine.
Activities
Provide individual tutoring lessons to beneficiary children trough the online platform “JustSchool”. JustSchool tutors provide one-on-one lessons in STEM subjects, including Math, IT and English and Ukrainian languages. Tutoring sessions are tailored to each child’s needs, typically lasting 30 minutes to an hour, once or twice a week. The program includes a monthly package of 8 lessons per child. On average, 1 program recipient receives 56 individual lessons per year (an average of approximately 7 months).
Impacts to be reached
- Improved academic performance of participating children ;
- Enhanced emotional and social wellbeing of participating children.
MYRIAD CANADA is working with the Ukrainian Charity Foundation “Children Of Heroes” on this project, an organization registered as a Ukrainian nonprofit in 2022 that provides charitable assistance and social support to children and their families, and in particular, to children who have lost one or both parents due to the war in Ukraine. The long-term goal is to raise confident, well-educated and ambitious leaders so that they can realize their full potential and successfully integrate into global society.
The organization provides comprehensive, long-term support for children and families in a number of areas, including education, psychological counseling, medical assistance, organization of children's camps, legal assistance, furnishings, food packages and hygiene products. By May 2024, more than 9,000 children were under the care of the organization, and between 10 and 20 children are added to the organization’s support programs every day.
