Education at the grassroots is not a priority due to poverty ravaging families who toil for hand-to-mouth existence. In fact, 34% of girls in Uganda are married before their 18th birthday, and 7% are married before the age of 15. Additionally, 6% of boys are married before their 18th birthday due to lack of educational support. This has led to unplanned and uncontrolled births that perpetuate cycles of poverty.
GoalsThe primary goal of this project is to build educational infrastructure and empower rural communities in Uganda, Tanzania, and Burundi through targeted educational and socio-economic initiatives. This project aims to enhance access to quality education, support students at all levels, and improve the livelihoods of households, creating self-sustaining communities.
ActivitiesThe project will undertake various activities to achieve its goals of building educational infrastructure and empowering rural communities. These activities include:
Educational Infrastructure Development:
- Expand the Amor Village nursery, primary, secondary, and high schools, along with the Titan School of East Africa in Jinja.
- Provide sustainable educational support to grassroots young people, reducing costs associated with sponsoring students in various schools.
Youth Leadership and Skill Development:
- Cultivate and strengthen leadership, talents, and career development opportunities for rural youth through formal and informal skilling programs, including baking, salon services, garment making, and computer skills.
Health, Agriculture, and Micro-Finance Initiatives:
- Strengthen health, agriculture, and micro-finance projects in schools and within individual families to improve overall well-being and economic stability.
Educational Support and Sponsorship:
- Lobby for sponsors for students/children without educational support, focusing on children/students living with disabilities.
MYRIAD CANADA is working with Pearl Community Empowerment Foundation (PCE Foundation) on this project, a community-based organization in Uganda, whose mission is to enhance knowledge and skills within rural communities and promote social, cultural, and economic development.
Established in 2011, PCE Foundation has significantly impacted the lives of vulnerable individuals through various initiatives, including educational support, leadership and skill development programs, health, agriculture, and micro-finance projects. The organization's efforts aim to break the cycle of poverty, empowering communities to take charge of their own development and ensure that the most vulnerable individuals receive the support they need to improve their quality of life.
