our mission

The Move for Life Foundation saves lives by reducing the waiting time for an organ transplant. Specifically, our first initiative will bring the newest approach in organ preservation to the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) in London, Ontario.

Everything we do inspires organ transplant recipients to live a grateful, active, healthy, and full life.

the need

Every year, thousands of Canadians are added to organ waiting lists and every 3 days someone dies while waiting.  Although most of us believe that organ donation is a good thing, only about a quarter of us are registered as donors.  Tragically, of the organs that are donated, many are unusable (wasted) due to a variety of reasons, including both clinical and non-clinical factors.  

our story

Once upon a time, there were 4 swimmers, Jill, Grey, Tony and Ben, who all met at an International competition  While chatting between competitions, they discovered they have a lot in common. They love swimming, they have embraced their competitive spirit, and  have the fight to win spirit. They enjoy being active, training, and staying fit. They are resilient and grateful for their life. And, they have all been faced with the  fight to regain health, because they are all organ transplant recipients.  

As a way to show their gratitude and to honor their donors they are making the most of their second opportunity and  living a healthy lifestyle. Any opportunity they have, they advocate and promote organ donation. 

When Jill heard about the need for special equipment at the hospital where she received her transplant, London Health Sciences Center (LHSC), that could save lives she saw the opportunity to help.  Jill decided to raise funds by using her talent  to swim across Lake Ontario (The Great Lake Swim).  When Jill’s friends, including Grey, Tony, and Ben heard about Jill’s mission, they decided to join her, support the cause, and help however they could.  Now with a team of grateful, competitive, inspirational individuals, they questioned why stop with one event, one hospital? Why not think bigger to help more people? And with that thought, the Move for Life Foundation was born.

At Move For Life, our vision and our belief is that everyone who is in need of a transplant shall receive one. With the help of friends, volunteers, and health professionals, we will continue to advocate for organ donation and transplant.  We will continue to train, compete, and organize challenging sporting events each year to raise funds that will help get closer and closer to our vision.  We are dedicated to setting the example of living a healthy active lifestyle, providing inspiration to others, and giving back to our communities in a way that will continue to reduce the waitlist for organ transplant and provide more individuals in need of transplant the same second chance at life that we have been given.
