We to strive to provide excellent library services to the Mayne Island community and visitors.
The Mayne Island Community Library was established through the efforts of local community members who worked hard to bring library services to our small island community. Today, both staff and volunteers keep improving our library and have created a facility that is a vibrant hub for our community.
Incorporated in 1994, the Mayne Reading Centre Society's (MRCS) goal was “to establish and maintain a community library and to formulate the objectives and priorities of the library and to program the services which the library will provide.” Awareness of the need for a larger space was realized and planning for the Miners Bay Park and Library Project began. Miners Bay Park was purchased from the Bennet family estate using funds raised by many very generous citizens and foundations. Representatives from the MRCS, Chamber of Commerce, Mayne Island Parks Commission and other interested citizens formed a planning committee to build a new library. As well as gifts of money, many tradespeople donated their time and a special “thank you” event for all who contributed to the library project was held in 2004 when we opened the library doors.
