2 months to go
With the help of 2 other organizations, as CMM confreres in Mozambique we hope to improve the economic situation of women and girls in Namaacha (Maputo Province in Mozambique) by initiating a small project in agriculture.
The project aims to empower women, giving them an opportunity to contribute to the food value chain and also to food nutrition in the region. By empowering women in farming the project will contribute to the dignity of women who often carry most of the burden of caring for their families. Their agricultural products will also contribute to nutrition and food security in the area and region.
We plan to develop this project later into a cooperative business that empowers female farmers affording them a platform and structure to produce products that serve their community and beyond, providing value added agricultural products.
We wish to start on a small scale with the growing of sweet potato. Sweet potato is a nutrient-rich and versatile product which allows a diversity of end products like flour, chips, juice, bread, noodles and candies. It is a high-yielding and drought-tolerant vegetable which makes it easier and viable for people to cultivate even on a small scale. The climate of Namaacha is suitable for cultivating sweet potatoes.
An agricultural technician will conduct training sessions which will include theory, practice, and the implementation of a Results Demonstration Field. This technician will accompany the female farmers in the process of growing, harvesting, processing and marketing to ensure the success of the project.
On behalf of the women and girls who will benefit from the project, we thank you in advance for your support.
