About MANITOBA ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN'S SHELTERS INC. (MAWS)
In the 1980's, women's shelters in Manitoba began to work together to provide support, training, information and improved services for clients. In 1991 MAWS incorporated as a charity, Manitoba Association of Women's Shelters Inc. MAWS members are dedicated to advancing and maintaining the well being of women, men and children in abusive situations.
MAWS provides a valuable link between Manitoba shelters and domestic and family violence agencies and you. Shelters are inherently private and exist quietly in an attempt to ensure the safety and confidentiality of their clients. MAWS helps all our members by providing centralized support.
Our Goals: Uniting Manitoba shelters and agencies to provide a central body to facilitate communication. Foster networking and information sharing among shelters and agencies that work to eliminate all forms of violence. Assist in acquiring resources for members. Promote public education around violence against women and children. Develop and promote best practices and provincial standards. Foster professional development. Your donations helps us work on a provincial and national level to support the fight against violence. Thank you.
