Creating the next generation of outstanding performing artists within the walls of a Canadian architectural treasure, the Lunenburg Academy
CREATING THE NEXT GENERATION OF OUTSTANDING PERFORMING ARTISTS
Welcome to the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance. LAMP is one of the most innovative and exciting post-graduate music schools in Canada, offering an unmatched level of personal instruction in distinct disciplines including opera and vocal training, strings, percussion, winds, piano and composition; encompassing early, classical, chamber, jazz, new and world music.
The opportunity to study with the world’s most versatile and accomplished masters is the undisputed magnetic pull for talented young musicians to attend LAMP’s programs. These emerging artists have already attained an extremely high level of proficiency in their chosen discipline; from this point forward, every incremental improvement, is a monumental achievement.
The outstanding line-up of resident and guest masters at LAMP come with astonishing credentials from all over the world. Notably, LAMP’s three core faculty are all Nova Scotian-born masters who have experienced brilliant careers in Canada and abroad, including artistic director Burt Wathen, legendary Canadian flutist-composer Robert Aiken and soprano-conductor Barbara Hannigan.
LAMP has brought new life, purpose and vitality to the 1895 Lunenburg Academy in Nova Scotia’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. We attract over 100 emerging artists and 35 world-class masters to study, teach and perform in the Academy every year. Our educational setting provides a safe and idyllic space for artists, propelled by passion and ambition, to push beyond the possible and realize their boundless potential.
Inspired instruction, creative connectivity and practical advice are the experiences that help the young and gifted elevate their art, and their career, to the next level. Visiting musicians reside in our tightknit local community and dedicate two hours every week to educational outreach in schools and seniors’ homes. Service learning through community outreach and artistic entrepreneurship are fundamental to the LAMP experience. Every aspect of our programming is designed to position our artists for future success.
Your support is pivotal to LAMP’s sustainability and development and with your donation we will continue to make great things happen at LAMP, in our community and in the music world. We are deeply grateful to our friends who continue to show their love of music and the arts at this time.
