Our Mission
The London Community Hebrew Day School (LCHDS) is a coeducational Jewish Day School which provides education in Judaic and Secular studies to students in Grades Kindergarten to Eight. The school is open to all students in the Jewish community.
The LCHDS strives for excellence in both Jewish and Secular Studies programmes. The totality of Jewish experience – its religious teachings, sense of people-hood, literature, culture, and national aspirations, constitutes the matrix in which the students are encouraged to explore their Jewish identity. Basic to the Jewish educational programme of the school are:
a) the transmission of Jewish religious, cultural, linguistic, and ethical traditions, so that graduates become proud Jews.
b) the encouragement of students to assume the observance of mitzvoth
c) an insistence upon the use of Hebrew as a living language and as the prime vehicle for the understanding of the Jewish heritage, Halacha, and the study of Torah and other Jewish sources.
d) identification with the State of Israel and the espousal of Zionism as an expression of modern Jewish revival.
e) involvement in Jewish communal life.
The LCHDS strives to ensure that all students develop an understanding and respect for the diversity of beliefs and practices present in modern Jewish life.
The LCHDS is committed to giving our children a first class education in both Jewish and Secular studies. Our secular educational programme meets the highest standards of the Ministry of Education of Ontario and in so doing provides LCHDS students with the necessary qualifications to excel in their future academic lives.
