The Forest City London Music Awards has partnered with LIFE*SPIN to recognize exceptional graduating high school music students by establishing an annual bursary to assist in their pursuit of music education at a post-secondary level in Ontario.
The Ken Palmer Music Bursary was established in honour of long-time London musician and educator Ken Palmer who passed away in 2013. Ken was an integral part of the London music scene for more than 40 years as a performer with the Dixie Flyers (FCLMA Hall of Fame), Artistic Director of Home County Music & Art Festival (15 years), and as a music teacher/mentor to many young musicians. Also, Ken worked at LIFE*SPIN to develop a business plan for a performing arts centre.
We began fundraising for the Bursary in April 2014 and the first bursary was awarded in the spring of 2016. So far ten students have been awarded a $1,000 Bursary to pursue their post-secondary music education at an Ontario college or university. Each year the $1,000 bursary is awarded to two outstanding graduating high school students. In 2023, donations to the Bursary enabled us to award two students this support. T
