Habitat for Humanity Lethbridge believes that everyone should have a safe, decent and affordable place to call home.

Approximately 30% of Canadian households live in substandard or core housing needs. Many families spend 50% to 70% of their income on rent and struggle to buy groceries and pay their bills. Saving for a down payment is impossible.

Affordable rent means living in overcrowded housing. Pests, mould, inadequate upkeep and the threat of having to move are common. Buying a home means breaking the intergenerational cycle for those who grew up in poverty. 

To better meet the need for affordable housing, Habitat for Humanity Lethbridge serves one family every year!

Families that have been approved for the Habitat Lethbridge Home Ownership Program contribute 500 volunteer hours to the community and are counselled on topics such as mortgages, taxes, and home insurance.

Families buy their homes at fair market value with an interest-free mortgage through Habitat Lethbridge set at 30% of their income. Habitat Lethbridge reinvests their payments to help more families and the funds are used to build more homes.
