Starfish North Langley

From Monday to Friday students can participate in the breakfast and lunch programs available within their schools, but weekends are different.

Teachers were noticing that on Mondays some students were unable to concentrate and realized some children were coming to school hungry. These students didn’t have access to enough food on the weekends so their schools have identified them to participate in the Starfish Pack Program.

Since 2017 the Langley Sunrise Rotary Club has been able to fundraise through community events and activities to provide those elementary and middle school students in the North Langley area with nourishing food on weekends through the Starfish Pack Program. Packs are filled with nutritious food for students to take home to their families every weekend during the school year.

The food is delivered to Walnut Grove Secondary School where high school student volunteers fill the packs. A Sunrise Rotary Club member then delivers the packs to the schools on Friday for the elementary and middle school students to take home to share with their families on the weekend.

Children can’t learn when their tummies are empty that is why we’re supporting families in need. With your help, the future looks brighter for kids when they don’t have to worry about being hungry on the weekends.

NORTH LANGLEY RECEIVES LETTER FROM A PARENT

“I just wanted to take a moment to recognize the work that you put into providing these backpacks filled with food for families in need.  I personally am very thankful to be a part of this program this year as there were some weeks that we truly needed the food.

It is so wonderful to have the support of our community during our times of need and I thank you for doing what you can to make it happen.”

Approximately $1000 feeds a child every weekend of the school year.
