The Open Door also accompanies its clients coping with alcohol or substance abuse to obtain access to rehabilitation services in.
This organization also provides housing to those of Inuit origin through the federal ‘Housing First’ program where 16 participants are provided with housing and social support to aid them in their journey towards social integration and autonomy.
The Open Door has become a beacon of light and hope to many of its participants. One-third of the homeless people who regularly attend The Open Door Montréal move off the street into a room, an apartment or a local mission. 40-50% of the clientele are of Inuit origin. Many clients develop a strong sense of community and belonging; they support and encourage each other, and often volunteer to help clean up "their" drop-in centre. Through their interaction with staff and volunteers, clients begin to feel that somebody really cares for them, and they find the dignity, friendship and hope they need to begin rebuilding their lives.
“To welcome homeless or vulnerable people, and to support them in their journey towards emotional, physical and spiritual well-being.”
