Our Mission
The ASTER science station located in the Bas-Saint-Laurent, Quebec, was created in 1976. It is a unique centre for recreational and popular science, which includes activities targeting school and tourist clienteles.
We have been operating since 1976, starting out as a public observatory and developing into a science centre in 1986. We have been offering science awareness workshops since 1991, and have been accredited as a science museum since 2001. Our dream does not end there, however – we are nurturing many other ambitions!
Every year, ASTER makes the rounds of the schools, reaching 40,000 students from across Canada: Québec, the Maritimes, Ontario, the Prairies and the West coast.
These achievements have earned ASTER recognition from educational and scientific circles. Our science station won the prestigious MICHAEL SMITH AWARD for Science promotion In 1997, the Technology Provincial Award (in the category of emerging organizations) in 1999, and the SOCIAL ECONOMY AWARD from the Témiscouata Regional Municipalities in 2005.
