Our Mission
Kootenay Animal Assistance Program Society (KAAP) was founded to fill the gaps in animal rescue and care that existed in our community. Despite the existence of a BCSPCA shelter, we were finding that pets in need and in crisis were routinely being turned away. KAAP was formed to focus on developing a solid foster home model for temporary pet care, rather than cages in a shelter, and in actively reaching out to the community via our web site www.kaap.ca. Our personal, compassionate approach to pet owners and their situations has been very successful, and very rewarding. Help support KAAP: donate, volunteer, adopt, refer. It all counts! Thank you.
About Kootenay Animal Assistance Program Society
KAAP is a 100% volunteer run society serving the West Kootenay region, around Nelson, in British Columbia. We rescue and accept relinquished cats and dogs into our foster care, and find new homes for them. We also provide any necessary medical treatment, training, and assessment the pet needs to help them become adoptable. KAAP's popular web site, www.kaap.ca, also helps community pets via a lost-and-found service, as well as a medium to advertise private pets for re-homing. KAAP is the only local animal rescue organization to actively promote a spay/neuter initiative for KAAP animals as well as for low-income families. In addition, KAAP provides compassionate care for pets of individuals and families in crisis, to bridge the gap and allow the pet to return to the family in due course.
