about

Our Mission

K-W Chamber Music Society presents high-quality chamber (and solo) music concerts, almost (but not quite) entirely classical, by artists of local (few), national (many) and international (very many) fame. Our concerts are held in a true "chamber", seating just 85. Over the 40 years of our active existence, we have presented approximately 1,800 concerts. Our aim is to continue to do this, bringing many excellent concerts to this musically active area.

About KITCHENER-WATERLOO CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY

KWCMS (Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society) began as an informal auxiliary organization to the K-W Symphony Orchestra. We have never been literally a part of the K-W Symphony, however. After the first few years our concert activities became quite separate and are now entirely so.

While chamber music - string quartets, trios, duos - continue to be our major focus, we also have a very extensive solo piano series, guitar concerts, and various unusual combinations (Indian, Chinese, VietNamese, for instance).

Nearly all concerts take place in our Music Room, a large acooustically good living room, seating 85. People have a sense of closeness to the artists (and vice versa!), which makes for an exciting experience. We also have one of the very finest Steinway pianos in the area, as attested by innumerable fine pianists who have performed here.

KWCMS offers both subscriptions, and single concerts. We are financed almost entirely by private donations and box office income. We have ambitions that we hope will be supported by still more funding from individuals - such as our Complete Haydn Quartets ("Haydn 68"), a project stretching over three years, of which we are entering the second in Oct. 2014. In December, we offer the complete Beethoven Piano Trios; in January, the complete Schubert Duos for violin and piano. And it goes on!

We invite you to join us, as a patron or supporter.

See our web site, which has a page for each concert we do; recent and next up to about three months are generally displayed at any one time.

Jan Narveson, President of the Society, has been made an Officer of the Order of Canada for his efforts in organizing these concerts (as well as for unrelated activities as a professional philosopher - he is Professor Emeritus of the University of Waterloo.)
