About Kindred Spirits Orchestra
Founded in 2009, the KSO performs a series of 9 concerts each year at the Flato Markham Theatre, the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts and the CBC Glenn Gould Studio. Led by the charismatic Maestro Kristian Alexander, the orchestra performs a vast international repertoire, including showcasing Canadian contemporary music. The KSO enjoys enormous popularity and attracts audiences from across the Greater Toronto Area and the world.
In addition to concerts, the KSO provides educational and community outreach, including mentorship and residency programs, composer and conductor workshops, competitions and school engagement activities, as well as activities for senior citizens, people with disabilities and children with developmental challenges.
The Orchestra continues a tradition of innovation being one of the first civic orchestras in Canada to live stream concerts in 2020 and 2021 along with striving to be among the leaders internationally in reducing its environmental impact over time. In 2021, the KSO is the first symphony orchestra in Canada to significantly reduce its carbon footprint by replacing paper-based instrumental parts with a state-of-the-art digital system.
