After the devastating wildfires during the summer of 2021 and the recent floods, many families were left sometimes only minutes to plan their next steps. During these uncertain times, outreach support staff at KFS were able to offer shelter diversion to families and individuals facing these challenges by providing some of the following items: bus tickets, gift cards, gas cards clothing, toiletries, food, water, tents, tarps, sleeping bags, and flashlights. In addition, KFS was able to provide support services like counseling, case management, and mental health supports to aid individuals during the traumatic events of being evacuated from their homes. Financial support will allow KFS to continue supporting those affected by the fires and floods, as well as the pandemic. Due to the pandemic, there has been a rise in food insecurity, mental illnesses, loss of housing, incarceration rates,  drug toxicity, overdose events, and the increased need for rental assistance. KFS has also seen a spike in client referrals and individuals in need of support services. Any support is greatly appreciated and will go a long way towards supporting those in need during these difficult times.
