Our Story
Founded in 2019, The Indigenous Stewardship Fund is a charitable entity committed to leadership and stewardship in the realm of environmental conservation. We believe in the intrinsic value of Indigenous knowledge and the critical role it plays in the preservation and restoration of aquatic ecosystems. By engaging in collaborative partnerships, undertaking conservation initiatives, and leveraging scientific expertise, we work towards the shared goal of safeguarding the natural heritage of British Columbia’s aquatic resources.
The mission of the Indigenous Stewardship Fund is to focus on the preservation and sustainable management of British Columbia’s oceans, fresh water, public waterways, and riparian habitats. By valuing and integrating traditional Indigenous knowledge alongside contemporary approaches, we strive to protect and restore ecosystems, promote responsible fisheries practices, and ensure the long-term health and resilience of aquatic resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
Our vision is a future where ecosystems are preserved and enhanced through the wisdom of Indigenous knowledge, scientific innovation, and collaborative partnerships. By fostering sustainable practices, we strive for vibrant and resilient aquatic environments that provide vital benefits to both Indigenous communities and the broader public.
