About Inter Arts Matrix (IAM)

Who We Are

We are an interdisciplinary arts organization that fosters the development and production of new interdisciplinary art in the Region of Waterloo and beyond.

What We Do

Inter Arts Matrix's mission is to foster the development of new work in interdisciplinary art, acting as a laboratory for creative artists and their projects. We support artists through the entire creation process, from the conceptual stage to development, production, presentation, documentation and promotion. We encourage the creation of art in public spaces, and art works that go beyond interactivity to involving the public as active participants. 

Our History

IAM was founded in 2007 by the theatre & opera director Anne-Marie Donovan. In 2014, after Anne-Marie's seven successful years with the organization, Isabella Stefanescu, a painter, media artist, writer, and producer, became the next Artistic Director. In 2019, Sheila McMath, a visual artist and curator, joined IAM as the Associate Artistic Director, and became the Artistic Director in 2020.
