Our Mission
Our mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners to build affordable housing and promote home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.
About HABITAT FOR HUMANITY IQALUIT
Habitat for Humanity is a community-based, non-profit, faith-based organization working for a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.
Habitat for Humanity Iqaluit (HFHIQ) is an organization dedicated to improving housing conditions for people who are gainfully employed but due to the cost of housing in the north, are not able to afford the down payment required to buy a home.
HFHIQ accomplished the first two remote northern house builds in Canada for Habitat for Humanity in 2007 and 2009. We were also the first affiliate in Canada to receive support from Global Village, an arm of Habitat for Humanity that supports builds in developing countries and assists in disaster relief.This was due to the special circumstances and challenges around building in Nunavut.
