Our Mission
To improve lives and build community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action.
United Way Winnipeg
United Way Winnipeg (UWW), formed in 1965, is a charity in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with a vision of a thriving community where everyone can realize their potential and mission to improve lives and build community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action.
Every dollar donated to United Way Winnipeg’s annual campaign goes into the community, thanks to a grant from the Province of Manitoba that supports fundraising and administration costs.
Each year, hundreds of Winnipeg workplaces take part in UWW’s annual campaign. These workplaces run individual campaigns to fundraise for Winnipeg’s community fund. This community fund supports agency partners and programs across the city that help people every day.
Close to 100 UWW donor-funded agency partners throughout Winnipeg provide services under UWW’s three focus areas: helping kids be all they can be, moving people from poverty to possibility, and building healthy people and strong communities. Winnipeggers visit these agency partners over 325,000 times each year.
UWW programs and partnerships include Koats for Kids, 211 Manitoba, End Homelessness Winnipeg, Peg Community Indicators System, and the Winnipeg Poverty Reduction Council.
United Way Winnipeg is a volunteer-led organization.
Thousands of Winnipeggers volunteer for UWW, lending talents, knowledge and community connections to the Board of Trustees, committees, councils, and cabinets. They provide oversight and guidance in areas ranging from finance to fundraising, to community investment and beyond.
Agency Liaison Volunteers engage directly with UWW agency partners in the community to provide guidance and advice on effective delivery of programs and services.
UWW is accredited by Imagine Canada’s Standards Program, a set of 73 standards that ensure effective, accountable, and ethical practices in nonprofit governance and management. UWW provides the same standards to its donor-supported agency partners through its Effective Organizations resource guide.
