Since 1945 we have been dedicated to promoting the health and welfare of physically, mentally challenged and disadvantaged children in BC communities. Throughout the years the fund has granted over 32 million dollars to over 200,000 special needs and vulnerable children, their families and the organizations working on their behalf. For over 70 years we have been able to assist children to gain independence and confidence through the generosity of donors.

Each year the CKNW Kids' Fund distributes approx. $1 million to children most vulnerable in the province. Our efforts are focused on children from low income households that require extra support for their development, including special therapies, medical equipment, educational bursaries and camperships.

We have funded:

- Therapies (speech, music, horseback writing, occupational)

- Educational bursaries for children with special needs so they could attend provincially appointed schools focused on helping these children

- Camperships for children that cannot afford to go to camp

- Specialized medical equipment like wheelchairs, accessible van modifications, orthopedic shoes, hearing aids and much more

- We have also funded families from out of the lower mainland who require emergency family housing while their children are at BC Children’s Hospital, and emergency dental care

The uniqueness of the CKNW Kids' Fund is our BROAD MANDATE, allowing us to help so many special needs children. The money we raise comes from CKNW Listeners, corporations, the CKNW Kids' Fund ladies bowling league, our annual pledge day, and a direct mail campaign we send out in the fall. We also receive donations from bequests.

CKNW AM980 (a division of Corus Entertainment) provides assistance with administrative, promotional & marketing services, thereby allowing donations to go further.

Our three biggest events are Pledge Day in December, Pink Shirt Day in February and Picnic at Playland in June.
