The IHS helps re-home approximately 300 animals per year and with the help of our sponsor First Air we rescue from Nunavut communities and the City of Iqaluit.  We have 3 part-time staff, 4 full-time volunteers, 5 board members and many other volunteers that help foster, fundraise and walk dogs. All of our operations rely on donations, occasional grants and supply items we receive as donations by mail and through online ordering.

Nunavut is constantly facing animal overpopulation issues. Since 2016 the Iqaluit Humane Society has hosted 3 free spay/neuter clinics, two in Iqaluit and one in Igloolik.  We have seen over 600 animals and provided some level of care in the last 2 years, free of charge, and to a majority who are low-income families or people who may never have gone for such a service had we not provided a free clinic.

We offer medical attention to animals that come to our shelter, some have been severly neglected, abused or abandoned and injured.  Our shelter provides emergency assistance and information on animal care, handling and training to the public as much as we can.
