Our Mission

“People with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to participate in all elements of living in the community.”

In our vision of community, all people will be accepted for who they are, celebrated, supported, and recognized as equally valued members of the community.

Community Living is something that most of us experience naturally as part of our daily lives. We live in communities; our children go to the neighborhood schools, we have the opportunity to work at real jobs for real pay and contribute as productive citizens.

For many people who have intellectual (or developmental) disabilities, community living is a dream- an objective yet to be realized. Even today, people may live in segregated settings, while others may live at home or independently but with little connection with the community around them. As children, they may be in segregated classrooms in schools far away from neighborhood children.  As adults, they are largely excluded from the workforce. At all ages, most face physical and social barriers that keep them from participating in the social, recreational, and economic world around them. In order to overcome these barriers, Community Living's focus is to help people make connections and live their desired lifestyle.
