Water First is Canada’s leading charity dedicated to working in partnership with Indigenous communities to address local water challenges through education, training and meaningful collaboration.

To date, we have collaborated with over 90 Indigenous communities across the country on environmental and drinking water projects, along with hands-on water science education with youth.

Our work is guided by the priorities and needs of Indigenous partner communities. Through collaboration, we are supporting sustainable access to clean water by focusing on building trust, meaningful partnerships, and lasting results

Over 90 Indigenous Communities Water First has collaborated with over 90 Indigenous communities in Ontario, Manitoba, Quebec and Labrador and the Northwest Territories.

In many Indigenous communities, the issue of boil-water advisories has a clear association with the shortage of certified people to work in local water treatment plants.

We believe that the water crisis in Indigenous communities is intolerable. Education and skills training is essential in creating solutions that work for communities.

The Water First internship Program trains primarily young, local Indigenous adults to become certified water treatment plant operators and to work within the environmental water field.
