As you know, Hospice Huronia has a residential hospice, Tomkins House, which provides end-of-life care for residents in North Simcoe at no cost to the family. Staff and volunteers ensure the residents and their families are comfortable in a home-like setting. Our community programs provide bereavement support to those who are dealing with loss.
It's a very special place however 50% of our operating costs must come from donations.
Despite Covid, we opened April 16, 2020 and have provided care and comfort to 86 residents and families so far.
It is estimated that the care of one resident impacts 5 or more other people in the community, be they family or friends. In other words, we have supported over 400 people in the last year.
