Calgary's growing population includes nearly 300,000 children and teens. According to the 2016 City of Calgary census 12,000 of these will lose a parent by the age of 19. We are seeing increasing complex needs with the children we serve and nearly 50% of the loss is caused by sudden death ( ex/ overdose, suicide, accident, sudden medical issue).

Our growing population is also aging and with that we see an increase in palliative medical needs. We work to help people mange well, at home for as long as they choose. When they are no longer able to manage at home we want to ensure their stay at Rosedale Hospice is comfortable for both the patient, and their family members.

Time spent in hospice has increased greatly over time. Many years ago our patients would be with us for a matter of days or maybe weeks. Now we are seeing many patients require hospice care over several months. This has changed the way in which we need to provide services.
