About Helping with Furniture

We are a volunteer-run charitable organization that provides gently-used furniture and household goods to families and individuals in need who are living in the Ottawa area.

Since 2005 we have helped more than 3000 families or individuals and currently have more on a waiting list. All of our clients come to us through referrals from social agencies, professional bodies or sponsorship groups. They have often fled from conflict, life-threatening situations or circumstances that have forced them to needing a fresh start on life. Those who can find housing often spend months with little or no furniture.

Volunteers are always needed to do everything from delivering furniture with our Wednesday night moving crew to helping with the many tasks in preparing for our weekly moves and supporting our operations.

HWF is a registered charity, not affiliated with any religious or political group. We have no paid staff or offices. All cash donations go to cover expenses (gas, storage costs, insurance, etc.) We issue tax receipts for donations of $10 or more.
