The Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area is a volunteer linking organization and registered charity.
We link people who help with people who need help. Our volunteers fill unmet human needs and strengthen community.
Helping Hands exists to meet the basic human needs of the vulnerable citizens of Cochrane and area; we are building community and ensuring our community members do not fall through the cracks. We mainly support citizens who our partner organizations are unable to help. Many of our clients are seniors, individuals with injury, illness, or disability, single parent families, and newcomers to Cochrane, Alberta and Canada.
We provide support by matching clients with volunteers in the community. Our volunteers are at the heart of Helping Hands, and are vetted, trained, participate in volunteer development opportunities, acquire relevant certifications, and serve Cochrane through a variety of programs.
Additional to the 'one to one' support we offer our clients, we also provide basic food security through our two Free Food Sheds. These sheds are located centrally in Cochrane, and offer barrier free, judgement free, anonymous access to food.
Through these programs we tighten the gaps in our community services, provide relief to our struggling community members, and offer volunteers a rewarding and meaningful opportunity to serve our community.
