About HELPING HANDS FOR MANITOBANS WITH BREAST CANCER INC.

In 2005 a small group of Manitobans recognized a need that was not being addressed by the health care system and decided to do something about it.

Helping Hands for Manitobans with Breast Cancer receives requests from both city and rural Manitobans for prescriptions not covered by the government, prostheses and mastectomy bras, reconstruction surgery bras and binders, lymphedema garments, transportation costs such as parking and rural mileage allowances, accommodations and meals for rural clients while receiving treatments and attending appointments, childcare, wigs, and rehabilitation programs. In other words, we cover expenses that nobody else will cover for our low income clients who suddenly require funding to be able to move forward through their cancer journey, one of the most traumatic experiences of their lives.  No treatment should ever consider being refused because of a lack of funds.

We are a completely volunteer based charity with no paid positions. We have no office.  Our volunteer Board of Directors work from their homes.  Our monthly meeting space is donated.  Therefore our overhead is very low and we are able to direct over 90% of our funding to our clients.  Receipts are required so our donors can be assured we are keeping excellent accounting records.  We are not funded by any of the other cancer organizations or levels of government.  We rely on your donations, third party fundraisers held on our behalf, grants, and our own fundraisers.
