Happy Tales Animal Sanctuary is a charitable organization founded in Harrowsmith, Ontario by Carla and Harold Moore.
Providing safety and sanctuary to abused, neglected and abandoned farm animals, educating youth and bringing our community together are the hallmarks of our mission.
Through the animal residents we endeavour to build community partnerships offering a safe and inclusive environment to school and community groups, children with special needs, disadvantaged children as well as to military veterans. We continue to identify needs within our communities and strive to effectively meet those needs through innovation and collaboration in our programs.
Our programs in Kingston and area include:
Education – Education is a pillar of Happy Tales and there is a huge community demand for it. We have been visited by several primary classes from the Limestone District School Board, the Kingston Waldorf Mulberry School, and the YMCA of Kingston. We’ve been invited into both primary and secondary classrooms and have visited our local high schools. Children learn about animal care, habitats, the environment and safety around animals. They learn the importance of respecting and caring for animals, fostering compassion and empathy for the animals and each other.
Community – Open to the community from May to October we have had thousands of visitors. Through summer camps, daily tours, wellness events, PA day programs, school trips, yoga, volunteer opportunities and our annual pancake breakfast we have been able to share our message of compassion.
Canadian Forces: We are very proud of our partnership with the Canadian Forces through their Rehabilitation, Reintegration, Recovery Program. Through this program we offer Military persons with PTSD and other disabilities the opportunity to work hands on with animals to facilitate their healing. Helping our veterans heal through healing animals is one of the most worth while services we provide.
Our sanctuary and education centre is unique to the area and we strive to build our programs in order to even better service our community.
