Every Family deserves a safe place to live
At Habitat for Humanity Cornwall & The Counties, we believe everyone has the right to a safe and decent place to live. We make housing a priority within our organization because safe, affordable housing transforms futures, strengthens communities and fosters resiliency and stability. By doing this, we are able to help break the often inter-generational cycle of poverty.
Habitat for Humanity families are happier, healthier, and more financially secure after moving into their Habitat home:
- 89% say their family life improved
- 70% reported improved health, including reduced colds & flu, allergies, asthma symptoms, and stress
- 65% reported an improvement in children's confidence
- 61% increase in extracurricular activity participation
Every One can help build strength, stability and self-reliance
Habitat homes are not given away. Future homeowners must be willing partners with Habitat for Humanity. Families purchase the home at fair market value with an interest free mortgage. Mortgage payments will not exceed 30% of all household income. Those payments are directed to a specific fund which is used solely to build more local, affordable homes.
Since 1999, Habitat Cornwall has built 18 homes. Habitat homes are built to all codes and standards required by any builder within Ontario. We are also extremely proud that our projects exceed the National Energy Code for Buildings energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions standards.
