GUELPH PIPE BAND

about

Guelph Pipe Band, established in 1922 is a legendary pipe band organization promoting youth activities & Scottish culture through pipe band music.

The GPB participates as volunteers in various events throughout the year including Remembrance Day events, free events for seniors and various highland games throughout the year.

The GPB is an important icon of the Guelph community, as well as Canada's. Proudly wearing the McCrae Tartan, celebrating and remembering John McCrae's contributions to Canadian literature the GPB actively participates in bagpipe events across the province.

Due to COVID: The band had to cancel their trip to the World Bagpipe Championships 2020, as the event was cancelled. This was after the Grade 3's band win in 2019 at Maxville, the North American Bagpipe Championships.

It costs hundreds of dollars to outfit a member of the band including uniform & instrument maintenance. The band does not have a membership fee and is all inclusive, anyone of any age can join the band. The band has anywhere between 30 and 50 members.

We have never charged members a membership fee and rely solely on community donations & city grants to run the band. The band has costs every year for bagpipe reeds, bagpipe maintenance items, drumsticks, drum heads and miscellaneous uniform items.

Additionally with funds raised, we run workshops for band members with some of Canada's, if not the worlds best pipe band & drum instructors every year. This helps the band's player's evolve as musicians and ensure the music being played is top quality amongst a world standard.

Because of COVID, we have lost a competition season, and foreseeably this upcoming season where the band earns a healthy portion of its income participating in Highland Games events across Ontario. Additionally because of COVID, we cannot do many, if any public events where we also earn income.

Any way that you can help is much appreciated.
