About grunt gallery

Your support and involvement is important to the continued vitality of grunt gallery. Founded in 1984, grunt gallery is an artist-run centre that supports projects of diverse content and execution. Our activities include exhibitions, performances, media presentations, publications, websites, archival research and production, publicly sited projects, socially- and community-engaged practice, and a rich variety of discursive programs.

Our vision is to serve as a cultural community that upholds art in all its forms, with a mission of advancing artistic innovation through the support of diverse and often unruly ideas, practices and worldviews. We are committed to actively upholding the integrity and inherent value of artists and their work, and continually questioning accepted notions of contemporary art without limitation. We strive to act as an intersection between communities, and to actively disseminate capital – economic, cultural and relational – in the service of a more equitable future. grunt gallery cares for artists’ work in the long-term, and we aim to offer broad accessibility to it over time and across media.

Our programming scope has grown significantly over the years from a facility that primarily supported exhibitions, publications and performance to one that produces a wider range of activities, including: multi-partner collaborative projects, online project sites and expansive digital resources, site-specific artist projects, artist residencies, public art projects, international artistic exchanges and a vital, growing archive. While our facility is modest – we operate from a 1400-square foot office and gallery space in East Vancouver – our reach is expansive.
