About This Charity

Too many kids lack access to fresh, healthy food. Growing Chefs is on a mission to change that. We want to improve the overall health and eating habits of kids and youth and make local food accessible. We believe food can be a powerful catalyst for positive change in the lives of kids and youth. Growing Chefs is where kids’ connection to food takes root. Working with volunteers from the chef and restaurant industry, Growing Chefs engages kids in hands-on food literacy activities with the whole food cycle--from seed to plate to compost. In our programs, kids plant and care for their own gardens, learn to prepare and cook nutritious meals, and share meals together. When kids grow and cook their own food, they want to eat it. During these times of distancing due to Covid-19, Growing Chefs has pivoted all programming to continue building connections between food champions in our community and families across British Columbia.
