about

Too many kids don’t know where food comes from or have access to nourishing, culturally relevant food and food education. We’re on a mission to change that.

We work to:

  • Empower kids and connect communities through food
  • Increase accessibility to nourishing, culturally relevant foods
  • Support a thriving and just food system
  • Improve the health, education, and social experience of kids and youth

Classroom Gardening & Cooking Program

In our Classroom Gardening & Cooking Program, kids engage in the whole food cycle from seed to plate to compost.

Led by teams of chefs and community volunteers, classes engage in a series of four edible education lessons filled with discussions and activities focused around growing food, cooking, nutrition, and foods around the world.

Over a series of weeks, the lessons transform students’ relationship with food. Kids approach familiar and unfamiliar foods with curiosity and positivity as they grow, cook, and eat their own vegetables.

LunchLAB

Celebrated as a case study for transformative, community-led, and accessible meal programming, LunchLAB changes the narrative about school food.

At LunchLAB, rotating cohorts of students are mentored by Chefs-in-Residence to cook, serve, and share nourishing and culturally relevant lunches twice weekly for up to 200 of their peers. The program’s unique approach brings students, chefs, and their communities together to experience dignity, delight, and belonging in their interactions with food.

LunchLAB celebrates food as a powerful connector, impacting students’ well-being, mental health, education, and experience of social and cultural belonging.

What people are saying

“Almost all of our students tried and loved the salad. Some don’t have access to this type of food at home, so it was great to see them excited to try new veggies!"
