The Skills Centre is achieving a dream it’s had for many years, and the community is going to be the benefactor. The Skills Centre has bought the buildings at the corner of Eldorado and Esplanade in downtown Trail. We are creating a community space that will be accessible, inviting and welcoming. Your donation will go directly to renovation costs. You'll also be commemorated on a donor recognition wall inside the Skills Centre's new building.
The Skills Centre helps over 100 job seekers and people living with low income a year. The buildings will house our Skills Centre offices as well as provide space for partners to have offices and serve clients. Planned renovations include a community kitchen to support food security programming, three multi-purpose meeting rooms, an elevator running from the basement to the rooftop, inclusive and accessible washrooms, a co-working space on the second floor, and a rooftop gathering space with garden boxes (also to support food security programming). The extensive energy upgrades will result in a 60% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, 35% savings in electrical costs and 66% savings in fuel costs.
Our vision for the redevelopment of the buildings will secure them as a valuable, accessible and inclusive community asset. Renovations have started and will finish in spring 2024.
