Overview

The Sunrise House is building a New Youth Emergency Shelter and to date, the community has raised $5.5 million dollars!   With 1 million dollars left to raise, we invite the community to help  "Lockout Youth Homelessness" by purchasing a lock for a minimum $25 donation and we will put your lock on the Sun Structure for you.  The Sun Structure will be placed outside the New Shelter once it opens to signify how the community wrapped its arms around us.  Together we can "lock out Youth Homelessness" and ensure no youth is ever turned away.

Details

Anyone not able to purchase your lock in person, can purchase right here and we will happily put your name on the lock and lock it on the sun! This sun filled with locks will become a permanent message to our youth accessing Sunrise House that their community supports and cares about them - and are the reason we are able to provide the services and supports that will come with our new home!

Your "ticket" is your lock!

About This Charity

Through the operation of Sunrise House, we provide temporary and transitional shelter to youth ages 12-17 who find themselves without a safe place to turn. Youth come to us for may reasons – family breakdown, family violence, neglect, mental health, substance abuse, exploitation – and any other reason that for them they do not feel safe to return home. Our primary goal as an agency is to break these cycles of trauma and poverty to put an end to youth homelessness in our region. In order for us to continue providing a high level of care to ensure that no youth is left without a safe place to turn, it is critical that this project comes to fruition. 20% of Canada’s homeless are youth. And it is estimate that between up to 70% of homeless adults in Canada had their first experience of homelessness when they were a child or youth. It is evident that efforts must focus on prevention rather than reactive measures and when we can increase our preventative programs and services.
