On August 21, heavy rainfall and water release from upstream in India have caused severe flash flooding in 12 districts of Bangladesh, including Feni, Noakhali, Cumilla, and others. The most affected areas are Feni, Noakhali, and Cumilla, where nearly 9.8 lakh people are marooned, and 887,629 families are trapped with little to no access to food and drinking water. Rescue and relief efforts are underway, but support from various organizations is urgently needed due to the severity of the flood.
In Feni, over 80% of some areas were submerged, leaving about 3.5 million people affected and 1 million trapped, with essential services like electricity and mobile networks disrupted. The first stage of our emergency response involved providing immediate relief needs include food, water, medicine, and other basic supplies.
Good Neighbours Canada is asking for your support in the next stage of our operations, which involved rebuilding and reconstruction of homes and facilities in affected areas. This will be a long and continuous project as survivors are still recovering from the disaster.
