GOLDEN FOOD BANK SOCIETY
Your donations make all the difference. The GFB is a nonprofit society independent of core government funding, meaning we rely on donations and grants to cover our program and operating costs each year. Donations are generally allocated to areas of greatest financial need, or donors have the option to designate a program where they’d like to direct support. Note for donor-directed funds, we reserve the ability to re-allocate your donation to another area of need once the program you have selected has been fully funded.
General Fund: Donating to the General fund allows us to allocate your donation to our area of greatest financial need.
Food Bank Program: Our crisis-based Food Bank Program provides households experiencing food insecurity in Golden and Area A with hampers of fresh food and pantry staples. Food insecurity applies to individuals, couples and families who cannot afford the quality and quantity of food they need to avoid hunger.
Food Recovery Program: Our Food Recovery Program is run through partnerships with local businesses and provincial food bank networks who have food that is still safe to eat but can no longer be sold. Recovered food is picked up daily, inspected for quality and delivered to the GFB to be processed by our staff and volunteers. Food is also transported from larger food banks in urban centers.
Other Food Access Programs: Our food access options range from free to very affordable. Offering programs on a spectrum helps us provide more food access to more people, sustainably and equitably. This includes our $10 Meal Kit program and affordable market.
Education Programs: Our education and food literacy programs help residents learn how to grow, process, and prepare their own food while increasing access to food that is fresh, local, nutritious, and affordable.
