Wildfires across the Los Angeles area are out of control and officials are saying this could be the most destructive fire in California's history. Entire communities have been burned down and tens of thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate. Many families had to leave their belongings behind and have no idea when they will be able to return. Despite the efforts of emergency services, many of the fires remain uncontained, which are being worsened by the lack of rain in the forecast.
GlobalFire is responding. GlobalFire is raising funds to send fire skids to local fire departments in California. We have donated four fire skids so far which are being delivered to front line responders at a fire base camp North of Pasadena.
GlobalFire’s fire skid units are equipped with a 1,000-litre water holding tank, a pump, and a hose. The pump pressurizes the water from the holding tank, creating a high-pressure water stream that is required for fighting fires. Each fire skid unit can be placed onto the back of a pickup truck or a Utility Task Vehicle, turning the vehicle into a small firefighting apparatus. These units can be deployed to areas that might be inaccessible to full-sized fire trucks. Thus, they have the ability to maintain control of smaller fires before they spread, protecting the health of people and the environment as a whole.
GlobalFire is also prepared to respond to the growing number of families who will become food insecure after losing their homes and their sources of income. Our teams are on standby to support food banks, soup kitchens and shelters by providing them with food aid and basic hygiene essentials.
All funds raised will go towards helping firefighters in California battle the wildfires, and will assist families who have been displaced with food and basic supplies.
