Gabriel DeSantis is Walking a Mile - COVID Style

Walk a Mile in HER Shoes® is a symbolic march that gives men the opportunity to take a stand against the societal restrictions placed on women and specifically the issue of violence against women and children. Over the past 15 years, Walk a Mile has raised $1,065,732 for Gillian’s Place. This year marks the 15th anniversary and Gillian's Place was planning to raise over $125,000.

As a result of COVID-19 and with the anticipation that demand on our services will increase like never before, we have had to significantly adapt this signature fundraiser. This year, we need everyone in our community to walk—not just men. Walk a Mile - COVID Style is Niagara’s March to End Violence Against Women will. This community march will ensure that Gillian’s Place is there to support women and children when they need it most.

I am joining Gillian's Place again this year as a Walk a Mile in HER Shoes Ambassador. On October 17th, I will be walking a mile to END violence against women. This is a cause that is important to me, and I hope that you will support my effort by making a donation to Gillian's Place Walk a Mile - COVID Style. I have set a personal goal of $35,000.

Speaking as a father of two daughters and a man that works with an office full of hard-working women, it brings me great joy to be able to support Gillian’s Place in providing a healthy lifestyle to the women and children within the community. Women are Mothers, Daughters, Wives and Friends, their concerns are our concerns.

I challenge you to also register at www.walkamileinhershoes.ca and walk in your own neighbourhood. Ending domestic violence takes a community effort.

Event details:

• Families plan to walk in their neighbourhood or the community decked out in pink attire.
• Families register their walk on a “virtual” map.
• Families are encouraged to help spread awareness about violence against women and compete for the best pink-decorated house in October.

Time: 11:00am - Opening Ceremonies via Instagram Live

           11:30 - Take to the streets to Walk a Mile. 

           1:00pm - Closing Ceremonies with winners and grand total announced.
