The mission of Georgian Bay Forever is to protect, enhance and restore the natural ecosystem and aquatic environment of Georgian Bay. We can only do this with the support of our friends and like-minded protectors of Georgian Bay. Your support enables public education and scientific research on water levels, water quality, wetlands and invasive species.
About Us
We, at Georgian Bay Forever (GBF), love the Bay. It has captured a part of our heart and soul. It plays an integral role in every aspect of our life and leisure. Can you relate?
But this beloved piece of our life is in danger. Are you aware of the multitude of critical issues affecting and threatening this unique body of water? Issues like extreme low water levels with the possibility of huge economic losses; threats to water quality from more frequent toxic and nuisance algal blooms; ecosystems at risk and new invasive species taking hold which threaten to decimate the biodiversity of our Great Lakes and Georgian Bay, the largest most complex freshwater ecosystem in the world which provides drinking water for 26 million people.
GBF is dedicated to finding scientific solutions to combat these issues by funding and leading numerous research projects such as Biodiversity DNA Barcoding, phragmites eradication, and finding climate resilient solutions to fluctuating water level extremes. All of our projects are specifically designed to find viable and realistic solutions to protecting, enhancing and restoring the waters of Georgian Bay. Our vision as a prime protector of the aquatic environment of the Georgian Bay area is to ensure that its pristine and natural beauty is the legacy that we leave for all of our children’s children’s children.
But it can’t happen without help and support from individuals and families like yours. We all need to stand together, united in our efforts to preserve one of nature’s most important gifts—our water.
