Friends of The Laureate Academy Inc. is a registered charity that accepts donations and raises funds to provide bursaries and scholarships to children that require financial assistance in order to attend the unique program at The Laureate Academy. The Laureate Academy was founded in 1987 as an independent school dedicated to the education of students with learning differences. The establishment of The Laureate Academy in Winnipeg was a direct result of a need for an individually designed, full-day program for students in Grades 1-12 who struggle in a conventional school environment despite their average to superior intellectual ability. Learning differences, such as dyslexia and ADHD, often result in increasing underachievement in such basics as reading, writing, spelling, mathematics, and study skills. This underachievement leads to continued academic frustration, ultimately denying many of these students the opportunity to pursue post-secondary education. The Laureate Academy provides the specialized instruction these students need to raise their basic skills and prepare them for university entrance.
