Friends of the Earth Canada stands on guard for Mother Earth and her people — taking action to confront polluters, holding governments to account for their promises and insisting they enforce laws.

We insist that each and every resident of Canada deserves a clean, safe environment and can exercise his or her environmental rights to make it so.

We stand in solidarity with vulnerable people and communities to confront the impacts of climate change and toxic pollution.

Friends of the Earth Canada (FoE) has grown from a small group of volunteers in 1978 to one of the country’s most important voices speaking out on environmental issues. We are affiliated with the world’s largest grassroots environmental network — Friends of the Earth International — which has 75 national member groups and some 5,000 local activist groups on every continent.

Friends of the Earth Canada works on the most compelling environmental issues of our time – saving the bees, climate change and environmental justice.

The Bee Cause

Saving the bees - especially Canada's over 825 species of wild, native bees - requires a ban on neonicotinoid and systemic pesticides, habitat protection and restoration, funding for scientists, improvements to relevant laws and regulations and enforcement to protect managed and wild, native bees.

Climate Change and Energy

We urge government to regulate down greenhouse gas emissions from homes, businesses, industry and transportation. Our Climate Risk Investment Campaign seeks to influence large investors, especially the CPP, to drop climate-risky investments and invest in solutions to climate change.

Environmental Justice

We stand on guard for people and the planet using ground-breaking legal challenges and public education to call for environmental justice for vulnerable communities on the front lines, confronting the impacts of toxic contaminants from mines and industries.

Our results

The federal government is banning the neonicotinoid pesticide Imidacloprid many used on millions of hectares. Ontario is reducing the use of neonicotinoid pesticides by 80%.
