For over twenty years (since October 2000), our non-profit Society has been supporting the provincial archives of British Columbia and regional archives in BC. Our mandate is to “promote, encourage, and facilitate scholarship, research and public engagement related to the archival collections of the Royal BC Museum and Archives and documentary heritage of British Columbia.”

We assist the BC Archives in acquiring and preserving archival material; we mentor community archives through our Terry Reksten Memorial Fund grants; and we facilitate access to the Archives with our Indigenous Research Fund grants.

We advocate for policies, legislation and strategies that support accessible and public services at the BC Archives.

We sponsor a variety of events and activities, notably presentations by guest speakers at the Royal BC Museum (now virtual because of the pandemic), conferences, workshops, and occasional walking tours and field trips.

Donations to the Friends help to support our community grants program and Indigenous Research Fund; the acquisition and preservation of significant records for the collections of the BC Archives; and the purchase of equipment for the Archives’ Reference Room.
