Our Mission

FOG's purposes are:

• To actively and tangibly support the mission, goals, and objectives of Memorial University of Newfoundland Botanical Garden (The Garden)
• To provide a mechanism for continuous, experienced-based learning for individuals from all walks of life with an interest in the botanical, horticultural and eco-system aspects of their natural environment.
• To help preserve, interpret and manage the natural reserve areas of The Garden.
• To further community awareness of, involvement in, and respect for, the natural environment as represented by The Garden.

In support of its goals, between 2013-2016 FOG raised the funds to required restore the exterior of the historic Squires Carriage House. Efforts are ongoing to support interior upgrades to repurpose the structure for use by FOG and the Garden. 

About Friends of MUN Botanical Garden Inc

Members of the Friends of the Garden (FOG) are volunteers who support the botanical, horticultural and environmental objectives of Memorial University Botanical Garden, a division of Memorial University of Newfoundland. 

FOG members, affectionately known as "Friends," volunteer their time and expertise through such activities as trail patrol, growing plants for the popular plant sale fundraisers, and helping out at special events organized by either FOG or the Garden. In addition to meetings of its volunteer Board of Directors, Friends actively participate in crafting, carpentry and horticultural groups which meet regularly at the Garden. Friends also volunteer with representatives from other like-minded groups as members of Working Groups such as the annual Mystery Garden Tour Working Group.

Volunteers have assisted the Botanical Garden since its inception in 1971. The Friends officially formed in 1976 and in 1985 incorporated and registered as a Canadian charity.
