Overview
Professional and emerging dancers are welcome to attend the online zoom platform based Brain-Body Connection Professional Development Series hosted by Free Flow Dance Theatre free of charge. If you would like and can afford to make a donation to support the future of the company please do! We are pleased to host this series of workshops with the support of the Community Initiative Fund, City of Saskatoon and Sasktel.
In this newly named “Somatobatics” class, we start by inviting a soft, open, released state. Moving very slowly, we can rediscover pathways of ease and strength. Breath is essential. Sounding and water imagery are useful. We tune to subtle sensation, maybe finding unnecessary holdings, to re-establish our connection to gravity. Feeling the support of the earth (gravity), we can move more efficiently and sensitively.
From this released and supported place, we practice different types of rolling and inverting, getting more comfortable with 360 degree interaction with the world!
We explore ‘landing pads’ and ‘launching pads’, and whole body support for ‘precarious’ situations, and for everyday fluidity.
The class is quite meditative, as we invite ease rather than strain. I guide us towards states which may help us transcend perceived limitations. In that vein, I sometimes use ambient music.
Though it is NOT necessary, I do recommend people have their own music accessible, as zoom does not always transmit music in the most satisfactory way.

Details
Kyle’s work is based on her experience in Contact Improvisation, Modern dance, Axis Syllabus, gymnastics, and nature. As an older dancer, she continues to explore movement that is generative, healthy, sustainable, and pleasurable!
Kyle has led Contact classes and events for over 10 years in Saskatoon, and at Leviathan Studios on Lasqueti Island. In addition to regular weekly contact classes, she has also taught sessionals for the University of Saskatchewan, Sum Theater, Gordon Tootoosis Nikaniwin Theatre Company, and FreeFlow Dance Theatre Company.
Her approach to movement bridges the poetic and technical, seeking that magic combination of release and activation. She also teaches somatic ballet and improvisation. Kyle creates and performs with KSAMB Dance company, and has danced with FreeFlow Dance Theatre for over 10 years.
