Relationship building in the dance world.
Have you wondered how to meet, connect with and solidify relationships with other artists, your peers, potential employers, or booking agents in the world of dance? Wanted tips on auditioning, resumes, dance reels, and attending guest workshops? Need advice entering the scene from grad school? You are welcome to attend.
Part one of this workshop will help you to figure out the basics of professional dance world etiquette, employer and employee expectations, and how to navigate it successfully.
Part two delves further into the nitty-gritty of the dance world helping you to develop yourself (your brand), gives direct feedback on your "sales" pitch, and provides success scenarios based on questions formulated in the first part of the workshop.
Please note that this class is not movement-based but is aimed to aid in professional development for dancers. Other artists may also benefit from this 2 part workshop. Please bring a notebook and pencil or pen and come with your questions. Advanced questions can be submitted via email to freeflowdance@gmail.com
Details
As an instructor Jackie endeavors to communicate her own passion for movement and dance to her students. She believes that a motivated and passionate teacher creates motivated and passionate student behaviors. Jackie cultivates an environment that is a “safe” place to explore physical creativity by providing knowledge and respect for the materials and exercises yet believes in maintaining a sense of “play within work”. We can learn to combine critical thinking and creativity to problem solve. This combination of theory and activity is essential to enhance our lifelong relationship with our minds, bodies, and spirits. It is essential for the continual development of our craft
Jackie Latendresse is an alumnus of the University of Waterloo where she obtained her H.B.A. in Dance with a minor in Fine Arts. She founded the Free Flow Dance Company and its adjoining studio in 1995, in Kitchener Ontario. The Company relocated to Toronto in the winter of 1996 and has since found a home base in Saskatoon for the past 17 years.
